RIVERTON AQUANAUTS CODE OF CONDUCT
All members and their families must abide by the Riverton Aquanauts Swimming Club Code of Conduct, the Swimming Australia Code of Conduct, and the Member Protection Policy.
The behaviour of swimmers and their families must always reflect positively on the Club.
As a condition of membership with our club the Code of Conduct must be accepted during the registration/renewal process on Swim Central.
CLUB EXPECTATIONS

Aggressive, threatening or inappropriate behaviour by members, their families, friends or associates will not be tolerated.
Examples of prohibited behaviour include:
• Bringing RVA into disrepute through social media or public comment.
• Harassing, using offensive language, bullying or ridiculing swimmers, coaches, officials, governing bodies, parents or friends.

• Threatening behaviour or any physical altercation.
• Applying undue pressure on children, criticising their performance, or creating an intimidating environment.
• Consuming alcohol at training or events, or attending club activities while intoxicated.
• Breaching Article 7.3(a)(ii) of the Club Constitution and the Swimming Australia Code of Conduct, including conduct detrimental to the Club during membership and for six months after membership ceases.

• Provide all members and parents/guardians with the Code of Conduct and clearly outline expectations and consequences of non-compliance.
• Require non-member parents/guardians to follow Club rules, including accepting the Code of Conduct during registration.
• Reinforce fair and respectful behaviour through signage, newsletters, website information and other club communications.
• Encourage prompt reporting of inappropriate behaviour and investigate all concerns in line with Club policy, applying disciplinary action where required.
WHAT WE ASK YOU TO DO:

• Follow the Club’s Code of Conduct and refrain from using offensive language, harassing others, or engaging in threatening or violent behaviour.

• Follow the Riverton Aquanauts Code of Conduct.
• Take responsibility for coaching, training, and swimmer development.
• Make reasonable demands on swimmers’ time, energy and enthusiasm.
• Help each swimmer reach their potential, respecting their developmental stage, goals and individual needs, using positive, constructive feedback.
• Ensure equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate for the group’s ability and age.
• Display control, respect and professionalism at all times toward swimmers, parents, officials, coaches, administrators, opponents, the media and spectators, and encourage swimmers to do the same.
• Maintain appropriate qualifications and stay up-to-date with current coaching practices and youth development principles.
• Promote adherence to anti-doping policies.
• Ensure physical contact is appropriate, necessary for skill development, and conducted with professionalism.
• Maintain a sound understanding of Swimming Australia policies and rules.
PARENTS/GUARDIANS
Parents and guardians agree to:
• Not force their child to participate in sport.
• Inform the coach of any injury, illness or condition that may affect safety.
• Learn the rules and policies of the sport and refrain from abusive, bullying or harassing behaviour.
• Model positive behaviour and sportsmanship, showing respect and courtesy to all athletes, coaches, officials and spectators.
Behaviour should never reflect poorly on RVA.
• Refrain from unsportsmanlike conduct, including booing, taunting, refusing to shake hands, or using profane language or gestures.
• Avoid behaviours that compromise athletes’ health or wellbeing.
• Teach children to follow rules and resolve conflict without hostility or violence.
• Expect their child to treat all athletes, coaches, officials and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, colour, sex or ability.
• Emphasise that doing one’s best is more important than winning.
• Praise effort, improvement and fair competition.
• Never ridicule or yell at a child (their own or others) for making a mistake.
• Prioritise skill development and enjoyment over competition, especially for younger age groups.
• Place athlete wellbeing above personal desire for their child to win.
• Respect officials and their authority. Concerns should be raised privately at an appropriate time — never during an event.
• Refrain from drugs, tobacco and alcohol use at children’s sporting events.
• Avoid coaching their child or others during training or competition.
