Student and parent code of conduct
PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT
At Dance Revolution we are very fortunate to have a supportive and friendly parent body. Our parents recognize that educating children is a process that involves partnership between parents, teachers and the community. As a partnership our parents will understand the importance of a good working relationship.
The purpose of this policy is to provide a reminder to all parents, carers and visitors to our dance school about the expected conduct. This is so we can continue to flourish, progress and achieve in an atmosphere of mutual understanding.
Guidance
Dance Revolution will expect parents, carers and visitors to:
Respect all policies of our dance school.
Understand that both teachers and parents need to work together for the benefit of their children.
Demonstrate that all members of the dance school community should be treated with respect and therefore set a good example in their own speech and behaviour.
Seek to clarify a child’s version of events with the dance school’s view in order to bring about a peaceful solution to any issue.
Correct own child’s behaviour especially in public where it could otherwise lead to conflict, aggressive behaviour or unsafe behaviour.
Approach the dance school to help you resolve any issues of concern.
Avoid using staff as threats to admonish children’s behaviour.
In order to support a peaceful and safe dance school environment we cannot tolerate parents, carers and visitors exhibiting the following:
Disruptive behaviour which interferes or threatens to interfere with the operation of a dance class, office area or any other area of the dance school including exams days or any dance performances.
Using loud/or offensive language, swearing, cursing, using profane language or displaying temper.
Threatening to do actual bodily harm to a member of dance staff, visitor, fellow parent/carer or student regardless of whether or not the behaviour constitutes a criminal offence.
Damaging or destroying dance school property.
Abusive or threatening e-mails or text/voicemail/phone messages or other written communication.
Defamation of the school’s or staff character on Facebook or other social sites.
The use of physical aggression towards another adult or child. This includes physical punishment against your own child on dance school premises.
Approaching someone else’s child in order to discuss or chastise them because of their actions towards their own child. (Such an approach to a child may be seen to be an assault on that child and may have legal consequences).
Smoking and consumption of alcohol or other drugs.
Should any of the above behaviour occur the dance school may feel it is necessary to contact the appropriate authorities and, if necessary, even ban the offending adult and their child from returning to Dance Revolution.
We trust that parents and carers will assist our dance school with the implementation of this policy and we thank you for your continuing support of our dance school.

Dance Revolution Responsibilities
1. Dancers/Parents are expected to be responsible for all paper-work and information that is distributed to them. E-mail will be used to communicate information. Dancers and/or parents should check their e-mail daily.
2. Dancers are expected to be responsible for all costuming, shoes, and accessories. 3. Dancers are expected to bring all required dance shoes to class/rehearsals.
Check with your teacher before purchasing shoes to see what kind he/she would like you to have for the class.*
4. Dancers are expected to wear proper and professional attire to rehearsals, classes, as well as any events where they will be representing Dance Revolution. Hair must be tied back at all times(Bun preferred).
5. Dancers are expected to maintain a professional attitude during class/rehearsals, choreography sessions and all events. You are representing Dance Revolution. Poor behaviour will be taken seriously.
6. As a member of Dance Revolution, dancers are expected to respect their fellow dancers at all times. Dance Revolution is about group effort and there is a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to: put downs, bad attitudes, negativity, and poor sportsmanship. Any dancer who decides to act in a negative manner toward fellow teammates or staff will be dealt with at the discretion of the class teacher and principal and could potentially be dismissed from the school.
7. Dancers must respect ALL teachers, choreographers and rehearsal managers at all times. Disrespectful behaviour will NOT be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the class teacher and principal.
8. Disruptive behaviour of any kind will be taken seriously and will be dealt with at the discretion of the class teacher.
Events
1. All dancers are required to attend ALL events including photo day, all rehearsals and the end of year Concert.
2. Dancers and parents are asked to be supportive of Dance Revolution. It is imperative that any and all comments that could potentially be negative about our dance school are kept to yourself. If you have a concern or a comment, please contact the school principal, Laura Iaconis. Please use e-mail or telephone to contact during office hours.
3. No screaming names or shouting at Competitions or any performances. Applause is proper theatre etiquette to show support and appreciation.
4. While attending an event, it is important that Dance Revolution students and parents display good sportsmanship to other teams, as well as respect the staff members at the event.
Injured Dancers
If you should become injured at any time throughout the year and expect to recover and perform with Dance Revolution at the end of year concert or other events, it is important that you attend all rehearsals as usual so that you can observe all new choreography and any changes that are being made. We also ask that you bring in a doctor's note regarding the specifications of your injury and keep us updated with your progress.
