All equipment is provided, simply wear general sports clothes and sport runners. (What you would go for a walk or play in the park wearing). Please also wear a hat, and bring a drink bottle, water taps are available, but your own water bottle is simply time saving.
Can I pick the coach for my child?
Unfortunately we cannot guarantee one particular coach for any group lesson. There is so many variables that affect which coach, coaches which class, on which day, I can’t guarantee one particular coach for group lessons. There is also (3) other children in the class, who may all have preferred coaches. As I absolutely cannot guarantee it I don’t all we guarantee, is a maximum of (4) children per coach, the same day and same time each week of lessons.
The only way to guarantee one particular coach for lessons is to book in for one on one private lessons, where the booking is made for that particular coach.
Having lessons with older children:
At times, children will have the opportunity to play with older children for a period of time. However, eventually older children will progress to the next stage, and the younger child cannot progress yet into the next stage. Whilst it is fantastic for children to play with older children at times, it is equally important for children to play with children their own age, to ensure confidence is developed as well as skill acquisition. If a child is always challenged and never experiences “being the best” in their group, emotionally it’s very hard for a child to be progressed and always be in the lower part of the group. A child must have a term where they are the strongest player in the group.
I’ve missed lessons in the previous term, or will be absent in the next term can I pro rata my group lesson fees for the sessions I will attend?
Unfortunately, our terms are based on the Victorian State School term dates, and the Coach, and the facility is booked in advance for the entire duration of the term. The group still goes ahead for the other 3 members of the group who can attend, and naturally all the associated costs of hosting the lessons must be met regardless if one person is absent. Student learning is based on the duration of the term, the learning outcomes and objective are established for every child, and coaches direct and teach children to meet learning outcomes by the conclusion of the term. Coaches cannot meet learning outcomes successfully if children do not attend the same amount of lessons as their class participants.
We offer our free replacement class service, and we also offer a no expiry ever policy on missed group lessons, to allow those effected adequate time to fit an extra catch up lesson in. You can catch up a lesson at any of our venues, and if the class duration does match exactly a common sense approach is used. Eg: a student is enrolled in a 60 minute lesson, but only a 45 minute lesson is available. Simply book 2 x 45 minute lessons, and in additional to the make up lesson the student receives a bonus 30 minutes – active children is a blessing for all!
But we are working parents, or I am single parent, my child cannot attend any other time - replacement lessons are impossible for me?
Nothing is impossible! We offer lessons 6 days a week, in a variety of participation streams, including adults, teenagers, as well as children, at over 10 locations. Any member of the family can take an extra lesson. We have many working parents and also single parents of 3 and 4 children who have managed to book replacement classes. Please remember the class still goes ahead in the absence of (1) players, this means all the expenses with hosting the lesson must be met regardless of only (3) players participate. Having a replacement class forum with no expiry ensures fairness to all players, and not requiring unnecessary prices increases.
But we have two children of different ages and stages and want to book the replacement class at the same time for both children but none are ever available?
We do offer replacement classes for different ages at the same time, we offer a variety of different ages and stages of lessons, so for replacement classes if you have more then one child, it is most likely you will bring the children at different times. However, in saying that the benefit of the app being available 24/7, another parent might document their child’s absence and you may be able to book both children in.
I’ve missed lessons in the previous term, and I am not enrolling next term can I just use my lessons up?
Yes absolutely, any individual lessons missed can be booked via the replacement class, a different weekly schedule is released each week for you to book.
I’ve missed lessons in the previous term, and I am not enrolling next term can I just use my lessons up and continue on the same day and time?
Unfortunately no, you enrolment is on the same day and time for the term enrolled, your enrolment does not continue into the next term. Every player must re-enrol for the next term to keep the same day and time. If you have individual replacement class to book you can book these through the replacement class app, there is no expiry ever on replacement class.
My child missed X amount of lessons, or we will be absent one week - can I just pay the difference for the next term?
Unfortunately we cannot pro rata fees according to individual absence. The court is booked in advance for the term, the coach is contracted in advance for the whole term, additional enrolment into the session is disabled due to acceptance of your child’s enrolment, and the coach has dedicated off court time to plan the lesson structure and learning outcomes for each individual child.
A child’s progression is naturally delayed if they miss lessons and do not replace them; it is unfair on the child to receive fewer lessons then the others in the group by not attending replacement classes. The child falls behind, yet we expect the child to be at the same level as their peers, yet they have not completed all their learning. Therefore, all students in our program complete the same number of lessons within a year. If a child is absence, it is the responsibility of the parents to book missed sessions via the app.
Additionally, as we have strict set participation to coach ratio’s, and our fee structure is as low as possible based on this coach to student ratio, we cannot cover our costs if we pro rata fees. One the main barriers to participation is cost, we don’t want to increase our fees collectively for every students, just to cover pro rata absences, which is what other companies do.
We have one set price, we have set student to coach ratio’s, and a replacement class forum to book any missed lessons, which we also offer a NO EXPIRY EVER policy. ALL other companies’ replacement class policy is a maximum of 2 replacement classes, which must be replacement within the same term missed.
We believe we offer a fair deal, and that’s what we offer.
My child wants to stop lessons mid term; can I receive a refund for the remaining lessons?
Any student who enrolls and change’s their mind will be expected to complete the term. Due to the short duration of a term, and a commitment has been made, we believe it is an important life lesson to students to honor a commitment made. This life lesson, teaches students the value of commitment, and being part of a team, and not letting that team down. Students change their mind on participation for a variety of reasons; most often these reasons can be identified and rectified.
Eg: The students have a clash with another activity and they want to do both activities and are being forced to choose. The child has a personality clash with someone in the group.
Sometimes the child is simply tired or hasn’t adjusted to the change into warmer seasons, and the easiest solution is quitting. By having our policy of completing the term, 9/10 players re-enroll the following term, because the issue, which has affecting their motivation levels, has passed, and they love the sport.
The easiest way to look at things is as parents, we know ourselves, and some times we can’t be bothered going to the gym or going for a walk. We know we should, and we fight within ourselves, and as adults we have the power to choose the easiest option and stay at home. But do we want to teach that to our children? Hence, why our company has our “change of mind policy.” The holistic development of players under our care is the utmost importance. If your child has started to question participation, place a call into us, as we have ways to determine the causes of motivation changes.
Rain abandoned lessons and re-commencement?
Lessons will continue through rain, however may be abandoned during sessions, if the coach deems the rain to heavy. When the coach deems the rain to have lightened or ceased play will be recommenced. In the event play is not recommenced, a replacement period will be allocated for the missed time on court. (Within reason – there will be no make up’s for under 5 minutes of play)
When players compete and they encounter rain, players play through the rain, until the official deems it too heavy and play is abandoned. Play is recommenced as soon as the rain ceases. This could be 2 minutes later, 10minutes later or 30 minutes later. Players perform a 2 minute warm up again every time play is stopped and resumed.
It would be unprofessional of us as coaches to not equip our players with the skills necessary to:
A) know the rules of abandoning play, resuming play, where the score starts at, what's side players re-commence on, what the rules are with news balls and warm up rules.
B) teach players tactical of the following elements.
• how rain effects the ball bounce, and the court and how the courts wetness effects the ball bounce.
• Whether to use spin or power and what the advantages and disadvantages are of both when it is wet. As it is the complete opposite on a hot day for example.
• Use of the shallow area of the court and angles due the gravity of the ball, which is impacted by the rain.
• Due to the dampness of the court the important of getting to the net and hitting volleys to take time away from the opponent.
• What to change on the serve to take advantage of the conditions.
• Also the "flow" of play is interrupted, as players “stop/start.” Players must mentally focus and re-focus each time play is "stopped and started." Being in a lesson under these conditions gives coaches the opportunity to teach players how to re-focus and how to take advantage of the situation strategically.
If we simply cancel lessons, which for us would be easier and also cost effective as we naturally replace our coaching balls sooner, as ball life is greatly decreased in wet conditions and Winter. I believe we would not be equipping our players for the realistic game and placing our players in a position of embarrassment of not knowing the rules of the games during wet weather. When anyone does not have the knowledge to compete people naturally feel helpless and unmotivated. At least our players will be motivated and skilled to work successfully under wet conditions, knowing the rules of play and also tactical play.
This is witnessed and experienced on an international scale with Grand Slam tennis events Roland Garros (French Open) and most famous for rain interrupted play Wimbledon. On a local level our club competition and secondary school sports competitions all follow the same rules of "stop and starting play."
You decision for your child’s participation will always respected, but it's a shame if parents exclude their child from the learning opportunities available such as participation during rain, and the “stop/start” flow. The biggest learning occurs by experience and the children gain the knowledge when it's wet how to structure and change their style of play to match the conditions that everyone must play under.
If you elect to not permit your child to participate, then the lesson is deemed as an individual absence, and you can book a replacement class under the individual absence protocol.
When will a weather cancellation timetable be available?
Lesson’s which are cancelled due to weather (eg: rain / extreme heat) a replacement timetable will be created and emails within 7-14 days. Multiple factors must be confirmed and instated before the announcement of the weather cancelled replacement class. Once emailed, this will also be added to our Term calender.
